Next stop, Makapu’u Lighthouse !
Ryan and I woke up early to head to the other side of the island today (what they call the winward side). Makapu’u Point Trail is within the Ka Iwi State shoreline and WOW, is it breath taking (and VERY windy) haha. The lighthouse itself was built in 1909, but was closed and cannot be accessed by the public. It did make for some really stunning pictures against the blue water backdrop though, definately one of the most memorable places I have been to in Hawaii so far. It is about a 2 mile loop up to the summit and was not every crowded. This path was paved the entire way, but there is no shade anywhere so sunscreen or a hat is necessary because it can get hot (despite how windy it is). Oh and the climb up the mountain is pretty might a straight climb fighting the wind, but well worth it! Loved this hike!
